Frequently Asked Questions

What is an RBT?

RBTs, or Registered Behavior Technicians, are people who have been trained and certified by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board to provide behavior therapy under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Behavior therapists use behavioral, non-medical interventions to treat intellectual and developmental disabilities and improve their clients' quality of life. RBTs have to get re-certified every year to continue practicing and to be able to bill to insurance. RBTs work primarily with Autistic children, following a treatment plan written by their supervising BCBA.

Do you offer behavior therapy?

No. Behavior therapy has to be supervised by a BCBA, and behavior therapists cannot use emotion-based treatment solutions. We can only teach behaviors that will improve the client's life, but we cannot provide talk therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, or dialectical behavior therapy. Insurance will not cover behavior therapy without an Autism Spectrum diagnosis, and it is primarily for nonverbal clients.

Do you take insurance?

Can you help me talk to my child/parent/teacher/spouse/etc?

Yes! Part of receiving collaborative care means that I can meet with your child, partner, friend, parent, doctor, teacher, etc. to discuss how we can all move forward for the best possible results.

What is the difference between a package and a plan?

A package is a set number of sessions, usually four, that is paid for in full upfront. There are discounts for purchasing a package. A plan is a recurring subscription billed weekly, for as long as you choose. You can purchase packages consecutively to get the paid in full discount, or you can subscribe to a payment plan.

What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?

You must let me know at least 24 hours before your appointment if you need to cancel or reschedule. There will be a $25 fee for late cancellations. No shows will be charged the full cost of the appointment.

What are you formally trained in?

You can request a copy of my credentials and certification numbers through the Contact Me page. I have been formally trained and educated as a CHW on topics ranging from current science on COVID-19 and pregnancy to trauma crisis intervention and care. I have received formal education through the Florida Institute of Technology in topics ranging from gender psychology to the psychology of adjustment and personal growth. I have extensive experience and education as an RBT in subjects ranging from play therapy to co-occurring conditions and how to work with nonverbal children and adults. If you are looking for a specific approach to care or have other questions, please feel free to contact me at any time.
